Thank You

Dear Friends,

Since 2002 I have had the honor of serving as President of Democrats 2000. Thanks to your help, we turned this group into the largest organization for young, professional Democrats in the State. We are proud of the more than 150 candidates under the age of forty whose campaigns we have supported, and look forward to continuing to work with them, and many others, as their careers in public service progress.

There is no doubt about the positive influence Democrats 2000 has had on the Democratic Party here in New Jersey. We have more young people serving in public office at the local, county and state level then ever before; have given younger generation voters an opportunity to be heard in some of the most important public policy discussions of the day; and have played key roles in the most competitive and important races throughout New Jersey. Together we have raised and contributed more than half a million dollars to Democratic candidates and have helped to develop a model of fundraising which allows us to make a financial impact on important races through smaller contributions.

Most importantly, we have made politics fun!

So now, with a sense of great accomplishment and appreciation for all that Democrats 2000 and its members have done for my own personal and professional development, I am announcing my ‘retirement’ as President of this great organization. As has been our organization’s tradition, I will continue to serve as an ex-officio member of the Executive Board.

As I have done often at our events, I would like to thank my family who have endured the long hours this position required; our Party’s leaders that have supported our efforts and given our members a real voice in the Democratic Party; and all of the candidates that have allowed us to be a part of their efforts to serve the public as elected officials.

With record turnout in this year’s Presidential primary, 2008 has already proven to be a year of tremendous growth for our Party and right here in New Jersey we are poised to turn three House seats from Red to Blue, including the 4th Congressional District where 34-year old Josh Zeitz has launched the most aggressive challenge to Representative Chris Smith in recent memory.

Democrats 2000 is in a unique position to harness that energy and channel it into our Party for years to come.

I look forward to continuing to work with all of you to grow our Party and hope that you will continue to support Democrats 2000 and our new President, Mike Giglio.

Please feel free to be in touch with me at s.lenox@verizon.net

Sincerely,

Steve Lenox

P.S. I hope you will join Democrats 2000 at the New Jersey Democratic State Committee’s Night at the Alleys next Wednesday, March 19 in North Brunswick!

Glad to Help

On December 20, Democrats 2000 members from across the state gathered at Doll's Place in New Brunswick for our annual Holiday Party and Toy Drive.

A record number of toys, which, according to Pastor Keith Jones of Grace Worship Center, "were a blessing and made a real difference in the community" were collected at this special event.

Thank you to all of our members that attended and contributed to this event.

What We're Spending

At a recent Senate Hearing President Bush's top budget advisor claimed to not know how much was being spent on the war in Iraq. Lucky for us, Senator Frank Lautenberg has the answers.

Democrats 2000 looks forward to supporting the reelection efforts of Senator Lautenberg so that he can continue standing strong and making a difference in Washington.

Beach Bash A Success!

More than 300 people turned out for the Democrats 2000 Beach Bash at the Parker House in Sea Girt on Thursday, July 12. With more than $40,000 raised, this event was one of the most successful hosted by Democrats 2000 since the group was founded in 1992. Those attending the event enjoyed live music by The Generation Next and the Joe Baracata Band, open bar, appetizers...and shuffleboard

Democrats 2000 would like to extend a special thank you to all of our guests and host committee members for helping to make this event a success. Additionally, we thank the more than 50 sponsors that contributed between $250 and $2500 to this event. As always, the funds raised at this event will be used primarily to support the campaigns of candidates under the age of 40 seeking office this November at the local, county and state level.

Democrats 2000 was especially proud to welcome so many of the candidates we have supported in the past including Assemblyman Fred Scalera; Passaic County Clerk Karen Brown; West Paterson Councilman Keith Kazmark; Hoboken Councilmen Peter Cammarano and Mike Russo, as well as Councilman and Legislative candidate Ruben Ramos; Mt. Laurel Councilwoman and 8th Legislative District candidate Tracey Riley; Manasquan Councilman Michael Mangan; Belmar Councilman Matt Doherty; Hawthorne Councilman Joseph Wojtecki; and Bloomfield School Board member Louis Venezia.

If you have pictures of the event that you would like to share please email them to Democrats 2000 today!
