More than 150 members of Democrats 2000 came together on December 8 to celebrate the holiday season at New Brunswick-based Tumulty's Pub. Through the generosity of attendees, children’s toys and gifts were collected and donated to Grace Worship Center for distribution to underprivileged families who live in the New Brunswick area.

"This free event was an opportunity for the Executive Board to thank our members for helping us have our most successful year ever," explained Steve Lenox, president of Democrats 2000. "More importantly, it was a chance for us to give something back to the community and make the holiday season a little bit more joyous for families who may be a little bit less fortunate than others."

"Christmas is going to be much brighter for so many children because of the efforts of Democrats 2000," said Pastor Keith Jones from Grace Worship Center, who came to the event to accept the donated gifts. "It is wonderful to see the future generation of leaders giving so generously to those in need."

Throughout 2004, Democrats 2000 raised nearly $45,000 from its members, elected officials, party leaders and various supporters. The funds raised by the organization assisted in the successful election of 13 candidates under the age of 40, as well as in hard fought races in Burlington, Monmouth and Somerset Counties.

Among the guests in attendance was Karen Brown, 31, a Democrats 2000 'Recommended' candidate in 2004 and the newly elected Passaic County Clerk.

"The efforts Democrats 2000 is putting into the campaigns of young candidates such as me are second to none. Judging by the number of toys donated tonight, Democrats 2000's commitment to making a difference extends beyond the political arena and into social action as well. I am proud to be a member, and former 'Recommended' candidate, of Democrats 2000."

Democrats 2000 plans on building on 2004’s unprecedented success by hosting at least one event in each of New Jersey’s 21 counties and playing an increased role in voter education, candidate and campaign training, and community service in 2005.
